Micky van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Run at Brand New Stadium

The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win elevates the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of the field

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on target, the manager chose the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - notched his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing finishing touch

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of recognised strikers - had scored just a single goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.
